On Sunday evening, May 20 just after 1830 hours (6:30 pm), Rescue 1 was dispatched to assist Frederick County with a rescue incident on West Baldwin Road in New Market. A family of 4 had become stranded on a malfunctioning roller coaster car at the top of the amusment ride. Rescue 1 staged with manpower and rope rescue equipment ready if needed while the crews from Frederick County worked to rescue the stranded family.
Command had Frederick Tower 23 set-up in the parking lot and use its elevated platform to reach the stranded car. All occupants were secured and placed in the tower bucket where they were safely transported to the ground.
Rescue 1, like all rescue squads, runs some pretty interesting incidents that make you think outside the box sometimes to come up with a good plan for mitigation of an incident.
