Approximately 25 units and 80 personnel from Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, and Frederick counties responded to the scene.

Units were dispatched on Box Alarm 1-9 at 1618 hours for the house on fire in the 5900 block of Cabbage Spring Road. First arriving E12 found fire coming through the roof and the bulk of the second floor. Occupants had escaped the house upon arrival of E12. A second alarm and RID were requested. Attack lines were deployed and operated but the fire was well advanced and available water was exhausted quickly. Additional tankers were requested to bolster the water supply delivery. Hand lines, a deck gun, and a ladder pipe were used to eventually bring the fire under control at 1825 hours. Additional time was spent overhauling the fire to reach all the hidden hot spots. Units cleared the scene at 2025 hours.

It should be noted that another working fire was taking place in south western Carroll County at the same time as this fire and many resources were depleted. Units were brought in from outside of Carroll County to not only fight the two working fires, but to cover the Carroll County stations.

Two civilians were transported to the hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening conditions. There were no firefighter injuries.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. Damage figures are not yet available, but the house incurred significant damage and is uninhabitable.

Units responded from Mount Airy, Winfield, Lisbon, Damascus, New Windsor, Sykesville, Howard County DFRS Glenwood, Libertytown, New Market, and Frederick County DFRS Green Valley
