The members of the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of past Fire Chief and Life Member William A. "Chauncey" Chaney who passed away January 9, 2010. Chauncey progressed through the ranks of the fire department to hold the positions of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and the highest line officer posiition of Fire Chief throughout his years of service. He also served as chairman of the weekly Bingo Committee as well as the carnival bingo stand for many years, and was responsible for raising many funds throughout the years to assist in keeping the department going. Chief Chaney was memorialized today at a service held at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy with family and friends. Many members of the company were present to honor and remember Chief Chaney and all his years of service to the MAVFC.
