Very shortly after dispatch, further information was received that the collision was on Route 27 just north of Pommel Drive. The dispatch was immediately upgraded to a 1-9 Rescue Box and additional units added to the call. Chief 1 arrived at the scene at 1448 hours (2:48 pm) reporting a two vehicle collision with two trapped, and requested additional medic units and a helicopter. Additional engines were later requested for manpower to assist with the lengthy extrication due to the hot weather. E141 was the primary extrication unit as they arrived first and began work on an overturned SUV at the bottom of an embankment, with two persons trapped inside. A third victim was lying in the roadway and was attended to by first arriving units. The first patient was extricated in 25 minutes and the second patient twelve minutes later through the combined efforts of E141 and R1 crews. Two helicopters, Trooper 3 and Trooper 8 were awaiting the patients when they were freed. All three patients were taken to the trauma center by the MSP helicopters.
