On Monday July 5th at 1631 hours (4:31PM), Engine 12 and Engine Tanker 14 were dispatched to Frederick County for the report of a barn fire in the 14600 block of Black Ankle Road. This section of road in Frederick County is very narrow and relies on local ponds to supply water for fire operations.

Frederick County Communications advised of a working fire while units were enroute and black smoke could be seen from a distance. Engine 12 arrived shortly behind units from Libertytown and laid 1100 feet of 5" supply line back the driveway. They then assisted units with attacking the fire which involved a barn and a house at the address. Engine Tanker 14 arrived shortly thereafter and set-up for water supply operations at the end of the driveway.

Due to the extent of the fire, a second alarm was requested bringing Rescue 1 and Paramedic 19 to the scene. Rescue 1 arrived and assisted in setting up a nearly 3000 foot water supply relay to a pond on Black Ankle Road. This required the use of numerous engines and water supply units to accomplish. Paramedic 19 was used to help transport personnel to the incident scene and standby for any medical emergencies encountered.

Mount Airy units operated for approximately 4 hours on the scene.
