| For two days in a row, the winds have been howling in the Central Maryland region. MAVFC units and personnel have had to deal with two brush fires during this time period.
The first occurred on Monday 12/6 at approximately 1200 hours. Crews on Brush 15 and Engine 12 responded to Turf Farm Drive in Winfield to assist with 2-3 acres of woods on fire. Personnel worked the woods with hand tools and handlines for several hours to extinguish and mop-up the fire.
The second incident occurred on 12/7 just after 1200 hours when discarded ashes from a fire place were blown by heavy winds into the woods behind a residence in the 5900 block of Davis Road. This is a remote portion of the first-due area that is accessed by a single lane dirt road. Crews from Mount Airy and Winfield worked in tandem to extinguish the fire and prevent any extension into the residence or field close by.
A huge thank you to Chief 14-2 who was available in the area on Brush 145 doing drivers training and able to expeditiously respond and assist in the woods. |
