| On October 5, 2011 the MAVFC placed in service a 2011 Mack/4Guys tanker to be known as Tanker 1. This marks the return of a Mack chassis to the MAVFC after an absence of 4 years. Tanker 1 is on a Mack Granite chassis with a 455 horsepower engine and carries 3500 gallons of water, a 1500 gallons per minute pump, side and rear dump chutes, dual 5" direct fill gates on the rear, and a complement of appliances to promote a rural water supply operation. The body was built by 4Guys Fire Trucks of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania and sold through Commonwealth Fire Equipment in Winchester, Virginia. This unit will predominantly be used to provide water for firefighting in areas where there are no hydrants. However, the unit has been designed so it can support the water supply operations in the hydrant areas by use of the large capacity fire pump on the unit. Tanker 1 replaces a 2000 Spartan/Saulsbury engine tanker which has been sold. Tanker 1 becomes the third large capacity tanker in Carroll County. This unit will respond to rural area fires in the four county area and could be called on to support areas where water main breaks occur to provide firefighting water until mains are repaired or isolated. |
