| Our country has been hit hard in recent years with mass shootings in public places where many feel safe. While these incidents are very rare, citizens should be aware of "what to do" if it were to happen. No one is immune from these incidents but everyone can be prepared to survive these incidents. The Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company has been working with county emergency management and local law enforcement agencies since late summer on attending training and planning with our local schools and other facilities to make sure we are as ready as possible if an event were to happen locally. While these incidents are mainly police incidents from the beginning due to safety and other law enforcement concerns, local fire companies must be in a position to work with and assist in getting patients treated and transported as quickly and efficiently as possible while not becoming casulaties. The MAVFC would like to invite everyone to look at the link at the bottom of thise article and watch the videos and read the associated information. It is quick and to the point on what you can do if you are ever in an "active shooter" situation that puts you and others in harms way. As always, please remain aware of your surroundings and be vigilant in reporting any supicious activity to law enforcement authorities. |
