| On Tuesday January 22, at 0806 hours (8:06 am) units were dispatched to the 200 block of Center Street in Mount Airy for a house fire. First arriving units found fire and smoke showing from the roof area of a one story single family dwelling, so a RIT dispatch was requested. Quick action by the crews of E12 and PM18 put two hand lines in service and knocked the fire down quickly, containing the fire to the attic and interior of the walls. Extensive overhaul was done due to the gusty winds and cold tempertures to insure the fire was out. The origin and cause determination is being done by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Damage to the house was extensive. Two dogs from the home were rescued and kept in a warm vehicle until Carroll County Animal Control could take them into custody for care. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Units were clear at approximately 0945 hours (9:45 am). Freezing water, icy conditions, and a cold gusty wind made the job much more difficult for the crews on the scene. Fast action by the Town of Mount Airy Public Works personnel kept the street passable by applications of salt as soon as the fire was controlled. |
