Route 27 Collision with Entrapment and Multiple Patients

On Thursday April 11 at 1203 hours, Carroll County 911 dispatched Rescue Alarm 01-06 for a vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 27 and Falling Green Way. While units were enroute, dispatch advised they had a report of several cars involved and one person trapped inside a vehicle.

Paramedic 17 and Chief 1 arrived on the scene just south of the intersection with only two vehicles involved, but five patients that needed evaluation and one of those patients was trapped in their vehicle. EMS units were assigned to begin evaluating patients and a helicopter was requested due to the injuries of one of the patients. Rescue 1 and Engine 12 arrived on the scene and began the extrication and securing of the vehicles. The extrication was completed in 16 minutes and all patients were appropriately triaged and transported.

One patient was taken to a trauma center by Maryland State Police helicopter, and three patients were taken to local area hospitals. Another patient refused services. Maryland State Police took over the scene and are investigating the collision. Units operated on the scene for approximately 45 minutes. Rt. 27 was closed in both directions for approximately 40 minutes.
