On March 9, 2014 at 0814 hours (8:14 am), MAVFC and other units were dispatched for a house fire with a person trapped in the 2800 block of Flag Marsh Road. First arriving units found an "A" frame type home well involved in fire. The house was back a long (1200') unpaved, narrow driveway, so hose was layed back the driveway and additional tankers were requested to provide water. First in crews attacked the fire and searched for the victim inside. The victim was located quickly and found to be deceased. Multiple hose lines and ladders were deployed to extinguish the fire. Extensive overhaul was necessary to get to all the hot spots in the house to fully extinguish the fire. The fire was under control in approximately 40 minutes, but the fire was not declared out for several hours. One firefighter sustained a burn injury to the leg when he went through the weakened floor during fire attack. The firefighter was treated and released from the hospital. No smoke alarms were found in the home. Two draft sites were established to fill tankers for water supply. Units from Carroll, Howard, and Montgomery counties were on the scene. Units cleared at 1454 hours (2:54 pm).

The investigation is being done by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office. Damage estimates and origin and cause of the fire are not yet available.
