On Sunday June 5 at 0837 hours (08:37 am), units from Mount Airy and surrounding companies were dispatched for a house fire in the 6300 block of Davis Road. First arriving E12 encountered a two story single family dwelling with fire coming from several second floor windows and the roof. The five occupants of the house had evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire service units. A coordinated, aggressive exterior/interior attack brought the fire under control in just over 20 minutes. Units remained on the scene for an additional two hours checking for extension and extinguishing hot spots. The very warm and humid morning made the work very tiresome so crews were rotated in and out and allowed to rehydrate and rest. Fire damage to the house was extensive on the second floor and roof area. There was smoke and water damage to most of the first floor. Units cleared the scene by 1107 hours (11:07 am).

One civilian resident of the home was transported to the burn center for treatment of burns sustained during the fire prior to the arrival of the fire service units. The injuries are not life threatening and the victim was treated and released. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The origin and cause of the fire Has been determined to have been a malfunction in the charging unit of an R/C car as determined by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Damage figures are $75,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents. The smoke alarms were in place and did operate to alert the occupants of the fire.

The Carroll County Sheriff Deputies were also on the scene to assist.
