On June 21 just after 1900 hours (7:00 pm), units from Mount Airy and surrounding fire companies were dispatched for an apartment fire on the Old National Pike in Frederick County. First arriving Engine 12 found a 2 story brick apartment building with fire showing from 2 windows on the side of the building. This building was formerly apartments over a liquor store, now all apartments. Engine 12's crew stretched a 1 3/4" handline to the fire apartment and quickly knocked the fire down. While Engine 12's crew was attacking the fire, Rescue 1's crew performed a search of the second floor with no occupants found. Units operated on scene for several hours assisting with overhaul. The fire is under investigation by the Frederick County DFRS Fire Marshal's Office.
