On April 16, 2019 at 0713 hours, units from the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched for a single vehicle collision with entrapment in the 3800 block of Mount Airy Drive. While Medic 19 and Rescue 1 were responding a Carroll County Sheriffs Office Deputy arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment. Upon arrival of Medic 19 they quickly evaluated the patient and the scene and requested aviation and confirmed there was one subject heavily trapped. Rescue 1 arrived shortly after and began to stabilize the vehicle and start the extrication. Once the extrication was underway the incident commander deemed it was going to be a extended extrication and requested the GO TEAM, a specialized team from R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma that assists EMS and Fire departments in the field. As the extrication continued an additional rescue squad was requested for manpower and the possibility of needing additional equipment. Units operated on scene for over 60 minutes to extricate the patient who was transported to a trauma center via MSP Aviation helicopter.
