On February 18 at 0033 hours (12:33 am), units from the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company and the New Market District Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched for a vehicle collision with rescue in the area of Woodville Road and Old National Pike. Units arrived simultaneously to find a pickup truck that had struck a parked skid steer with a single occupant pinned in the pickup.

New Market Chief 15 established command and assigned Chief 1 as the rescue group supervisor. Rescue 1 and the crews from New Market Co. 15 removed the doors, rolled the dash, and extricated the patient out through the passenger side door. The patient was transferred to the care of Medic 19 and flown to a trauma center by MSP Trooper 3. The extrication took approximately 18 minutes and units were on scene for approximately 45 minutes before returning to service.

This was the second working extrication that Rescue 1 responded on this week. On Tuesday, February 13, Rescue 1, staffed by DFEMS career staff and MAVFC volunteers, and Chief 1 ran a vehicle collision with rescue in the 3200 block of Ridge Rd. The personnel from Rescue 1 assisted crews from Winfield on the scene with extricating a patient from a vehicle on its side.
