On Sunday 02/08/2026 at 1649 hours (4:49 pm), units from MAVFC and surrounding areas were dispatched for the house fire in the 600 block of South Main Street (Box 1-15) in Mt. Airy. E12, staffed by DFEMS and Volunteer personnel, arrived first to find a 2 ½ story single family dwelling with smoke showing from the Alpha (front) side. Command was quickly established directly across the street by Captain 1.

E12 and R1 were sent to the second floor where they discovered fire in the walls of an older balloon frame constructed dwelling. The fire was running the Alpha side wall extending into the roof of the front porch. With the assistance of Frederick Engine 251, Frederick Engine 153, and Howard E41, the Alpha walls on Division 1 and 2 (first and second floors) were opened up along with the front porch ceiling and the fire was quickly knocked. Responding units encountered frozen hydrants so additional tankers were dispatched to provide water supply support. Units operated for over an hour before returning to service. Despite the very cold conditions, there were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The occupants of the house were displaced due to the damage. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by the Frederick County Fire Marshal's office. No damage estimate is available at this time. Damage to the home was moderate.
