On Friday May 16, emergency medical supplies were taken to Westernport, Maryland to support the Tri -Town Ambulance and Rescue Company and the Potomac Volunteer Fire Company No. 2. Flood waters heavily damaged both stations and completely wiped out all of their medical supplies to stock their medic units, engines, and rescue squad. Supplies were provided by the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company and the Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS. Utility 1 departed Mount Airy early Friday morning and arrived in Westernport mid-morning. Utility 1 is a crew cab, four- wheel drive pickup with a long bed. This vehicle was fully loaded, bed, cab, and rear seat area with EMS supplies.
Upon arrival, personnel from the fire company and ambulance company unloaded all the supplies and secured them in a safe, dry place. Restocking of the medic units and chase car as well as the engines and rescue squad was to take place later. The chiefs from both companies were very grateful for this donation stating that this would allow them to continue to provide emergency medical services until insurance could assist in obtaining more needed supplies. |
