On August 29 at 21:22 hours, (9:22 pm), units from the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched for a house fire in the 7200 Block of John Pickett Road. Chief 1 arrived first on scene to find fire through the roof of a 1 story single family dwelling and established command. Howard E41 and E12 advanced hose lines through the front door and quickly extinguished the fire. Truck 1 provided access to all areas and ladder support operating as the first due truck. M19 established the EMS group with EMS103. Howard Chief 4 was assigned the Division 1 supervisor. Howard Battalion 3 was the water supply officer. Chief 12-2 was assigned as the safety officer and Carroll Battalion Chief 101 operated as the command aide with Chief 1. Crews from Lisbon, Winfield, Sykesville, West Friendship and Howard County DFRS assisted with the primary search, overhaul and hitting hot spots. Units operated for approximately 2.5 hours before clearing the scene. The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the origin and cause.
