| Over the next year, the MAVFC will be commemorating our 100 years of service to Mount Airy and the surrounding communities. It all began many years before 1926 with several devastating fires destroying the town. One of the fires was in 1903 that burned the business section of town south of the railroad tracks and another in 1914 which destroyed much of the business section north of the railroad tracks.
In 1921, Mr. Charles Glover realized a need for fire protection service. Unfortunately, Mr. Glover passed before much progress was made to establish a fire company. On June 4, 1925, another fire tore through the business district north of the railroad tracks. This fire rekindled the interest in organizing a fire company in Mount Airy.
On April 29, 1926, the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company was incorporated and our story begins.
Throughout 2026, articles will be published about our history. We hope you will take the time to follow us through the years. Special thanks are extended to the Mount Airy Historical Society who provided the attached photographs.
