| As the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company (MAVFC) prepares for their Centennial Celebration in 2026, they took time to recognize 2025 accomplishments and to install Administrative and Operational Officers. On March 13th, President Susan Hubble and Chief Anthony Russo presided over the evening and presented the following recognitions.
In 2025, the MAVFC responded to a total of 2884 emergency incidents. The Top Emergency Incident Responders were as follows: Steve Bettis (104), Eli Ruddy (105), Eddie Godwin (121), Tom Gartner (137), Jarrett Heard (148), Anthony Russo (157), Joseph Chinquee (276), Charles Hamilton (288), Robert Christiansen, Jr. (346), John Chambers (385), Trista Christiansen (673), William Fries III (786)
William Fries III was the Top Overall Responder with 786 responses. He was also the Top Fire Responder with 371 incidents. Trista Christiansen was presented the Top EMS/Rescue Responder with 485 responses.
The following members were presented certificates for Length of Service milestones: Twenty-Five Years and Life Membership: William Fries III, 60 Years: James Linton, Jr., 65 Years: Granville Albright
Chief Russo presented operational recognition awards as follows: Firefighter of the Year: Eli Ruddy EMS Volunteer of the Year: Peyton Price Fire Chief's Award: Steve Bettis Rookie of the Year: Trista Christiansen Junior Volunteer of the Year: Miranda Christiansen
The All Around Volunteer which is selected by the Presidents and Chiefs for exemplary service in all aspects of the Fire Company was presented to Scott Brister.
Recognized for his work in Fire Prevention and Life Safety was William Fries III. Bill attended many school visits and took on the task of working with our local seniors replacing smoke/CO detectors and educating them in safety precautions. The 2025 Distinguished Service Award which recognizes a member for their dedicated, significant, and long-term continued outstanding service to the Company was presented to Matthew Heard. He has just completed 29 years of service, held several administrative offices, organized numerous fundraisers and was a top ten responder for over 10 years.
