Sunday evening March 13 brought forth the fundraiser for the family that lost their home on Main Street on February 24. Dan and Staci Caiola, owners of the Olde Town Restaurant hosted this event in an effort to provide some immediate relief for the family that lost most of their possesions and their home to a devastating fire. Dan, a member of the MAVFC, saw the need to assist this family as one of the family members is an employee at Olde Town. He enlisted the help of the MAVFC and other folks from the town and held the evening fundraiser. A special menu was prepared, flyers were distributed, and help was lined up from MAVFC. Local newspapers and TV stations picked up the story and provided coverage to assist in drawing customers to the event. Many prizes were donated by businesses and people from the Mt. Airy community to be raffled off during the event.
A terrific turnout from the community kept the staff busy during the entire event. All of the Olde Town staff donated their time and tips to the family, and all proceeds from the in-house raffle went to the family. A portion of each meal served was donated by Dan and Staci. Contributions were made by many folks before and during the event. At the end of the event, a very good sum of money was given to the family to assist in their recovery from this terrible fire.
Over 24 members of MAVFC and Auxiliary assisted with, or patronized this event. The Mayor of Mt. Airy and some of the Council members and their families attended as well. Several businesses from the Mt. Airy area contributed or had personnel come to enjoy dinner and support the event. This truly was a community effort to help some of our community members in a time of need.
