On Sunday May 6, Tanker 1 and Utility 1 with four personnel attended and participated in the MSFA spring rural water supply exercise hosted by the Jarrettsville VFD in Harford County. Over 30 units from 7 Maryland and 2 Pennsylvania counties including 152 personnel participated in this well planned, multi-faceted exercise. A simulated target hazard was established and master stream devices flowed water being provided by tankers and engines for a two hour period. Once water began to flow, the supply was never lost. Over 155,000 gallons of water was shuttled from 3 fill sites. There were 8 folding tanks used at the dump site to hold the water being shuttled, and two engines to maintain the flow to the attack engines. The flow averaged approximately 1150 gallons per minute for the 2 hour duration.
Tanker 1 shuttled water for the entire two hour period. Personnel were able to see all the fill sites and the dump site operations. This exercise allows folks from many different geographical areas to interact and exchange ideas and techniques in rural water supply tactics. There were 6 units in attendance from Carroll County, 1 unit from Frederick County, 1 unit from Howard County, and 2 units from Montgomery County that made the trip to Jarrettsville for this worthwhile exercise.
