| Sunday September 30, 2012 was a day that many folks in the Mount Airy community had looked forward to for a long time. The mortgage on the fire station was burned signifying the complete payoff of the loan taken out 20 years ago to construct the current fire station. The ceremonial "mortgage burning" was held at the opening of the annual "Carnival Thank You" gathering at the Activities Building. Members of the fire company and the community we serve that assist with our annual fundraiser, gathered to enjoy a casual meal and celebrate another successful carnival. The mortgage burning was an added celebration this year.
MAVFC took out a $1.6 million loan from Carroll County to construct a new fire station in 1992. Construction had been started in November of 1991 after approval of the loan by county government. The new station was completed and operations of the company from the new location began on Saturday November 7, 1992. Over 20 years, the station has served well but is beginning to need some repairs and upgrades such as new bay doors and a new and bigger emergency generator.
The Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company has been blessed with a generous community since it's inception in 1926. The generosity of the community has allowed for the fire company to maintain a modern fleet of apparatus and a fire station that will handle the needs of the community in most emergency situations.
The officers and members of the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company wish to say "THANK YOU" to our community for providing us with the means to provide emergency services to the community and surrounding area. |
